Why Do I Need a Side Hustle?

May 04, 20236 min read

In this blog, I would like to talk about this as a prize to your businesses, your side hustles, and even your full-time careers. I am not talking about jumping into direct sales or quitting your day jobs. What I am talking about is how to make the most of things you’re likely doing anyways.

When I think about side hustles, it is anything that brings you income or another financial benefit that is completely separate from the income that you are currently using to base your daily or weekly, or monthly budgets on.

Why Diversifying Your Income is Important

Diversifying your income is always a good thing. I believe that over the last couple of years, we’ve learned one thing and that's how quickly things can change, whether you are a CEO of a multimillion dollars corporation, whether you are a bank teller, or a cashier at a retail grocery store or you own your own small or even large business things can change in an instant. It can all go away and I think that happens to so many people so quickly that the whole side hustle game has changed a lot.

Having different avenues of income to either bridge the gaps were needed or just to bring in some extra income to make you feel like you have a bit of recussion? In case things go south again, a side hustle is always a good thing. Having some control or even the feeling of control is also a huge benefit of having a side hustle. The one thing I’ve learned over the years is the more you put into these things the more you get out of them. It's kind of nice to know that if you are going through a rough patch or need the extra income for something, you can always work a little bit harder at whatever you choose as your side hustle to get through that time or save money and then maybe that's not so important you could back off for a little while. But the feeling of control or a little bit of that is always a good thing in my opinion.

Finding Fulfillment with a Side Hustle

I have and always have an entrepreneurial spirit. I have always had a little project going on or a big project or several projects whether working a full-time job, a part-time job, or running one of my businesses. Whatever I've been doing, I’ve always had a side hustle or two going on. The reason I bring this up is because by doing that in networking, you get to know so many amazing people. I have a pretty large circle of individuals, and as I chatted with some of them, there was a common thread that kept getting brought up about having some control and diversifying incomes. The one thing that kept sticking out to me was the word fulfillment. That really strikes a chord with me and my circle. That's because it's so fulfilling to take something and look at it and know that you did that. It could be your dream, your baby, your hard work, your extra ten minutes a day, or whatever it is you have to put into that you are able to make whatever extra money or bring in that little bit of extra income for whatever it is that you wanna do. Having your own thing can just be such a rewarding and fulfilling endeavor and highly suggest that you find something you love.

How to Make the Most of Your Side Hustle

Let’s talk about a few things that you might want to do with your extra money.

Setting up a Rainy Day Fund

A rainy day fund could be handy whether you’re afraid your today job is gonna go away or just want to have that extra cushion on that savings account or whatever it is.

Using Your Side Hustle Income for Travel

Now, probably the second most popular thing that came out is the nearest and there to my heart and that was travel. I have always used all of my extra money for travel, I love to go and do and see, whether that's a weekend away, going on a cruise, or going to resorts.

Recently, we were lucky enough to spend a couple of weeks in Scotland and there is so much more that I want to go and see and do. And that is where my side hustle money has always come in for my family. That's how we did Disneyland when my kids were young, that's how we treat the kids on cruises, that's how we’ve done the things that we’ve done.

I have talked to many women, especially that same thing whether they are traveling for themselves, for their family, with their staff, or with their significant other, travel is a huge one. And it is not always doable sometimes it is really easy to budget your daily needs, your bills and groceries, the school projects and things like that add to your budget.

Finding the extra money to travel could be really difficult and it doesn't seem important to a lot of people. If it is not important to you,  then I'm sure there are other things that are. But that is definitely one of the main reasons to ever want to earn extra money. You may not be getting the money from where you want to or you don't feel good about taking that out of your grocery budget or whatever your family budget. But if you did have a little side hustle that’s going on,  then maybe you don't feel as guilty going and buying those things that you want and that is not me saying that you should never feel guilty so don't take it that way.

Providing Extras for Your Kids and Family

I know when my kids were growing up we had summer camps and extra things that would come up. There was always some kind of uniform or costume or there were always new things that just kept coming up. So having a few little things on the side that give us extra money always helped with those surprise pieces that come up when you’re raising your kids. Then there are just things in your house maybe you want to remodel, maybe your dishwasher is going out, or something more necessary like your heater or  your air conditioner. Just having a little bit of nesting in the cushion is always so reassuring and knowing that there or maybe you just want to pour a big slab in the backyard or at least for us, there's always something that you wanna do in your living space to either make it more lovable or just more fun or more beautiful or more livable. Those are just one of the main reasons that I came up with when I'm talking to my circle about why they love to have their side hustles.

In conclusion, having a side hustle can provide you with additional financial benefits, diversify your income, and give you a sense of control over your financial situation. By setting clear goals and purpose for your side hustle, you can make the most of it and achieve your financial goals. Whether it's setting up a rainy day fund, traveling, or providing extras for your kids, a side hustle can help you achieve the financial stability and freedom you desire.
